Jul. 25th, 2008 02:09 pmI’m a bit depressed today. It’s to do with the fact I’m old and don’t have a job and have NOTHING in my life. To be honest it’s scary. I think I’ll be stuck at home till I die and I don’t want that. I had dreams, I wanted to be a comic artist or do designs for games companies and for a little while I did work in design before I fucked things up royally. Now I realise I’m not that good an artist and that has killed any motivation I have, I may as well accept that job in Macdonald’s and get used to the fact that’s all I’ll ever be. I hate my life T_T
Kay better go into town as i have to go to the job center and depress myself even more.
CRAMMIN' A BUNCH OF STUFF INTO THIS COMMENT
on 2008-07-25 10:15 pm (UTC)Practice! Practice! Practice! Writers and musicians have to practice a lot too! Draw fast too. You learn more from 10 crappy drawings than one sub-par drawing that you've tweaked for over an hour~! :3
Even the greatest artists self-criticize. An artist is his own best critic!
As a kid I was told that in order to be successful that I'd had to work hard for it. And I was like wahhh, I hate working hard. I still do, but whenever moments like these come up, I think of those moments. "This is it. This is what they warned me about." It helps me get through it.
About the comic thing, go for it! Honestly, the first product will pretty much inevitably have a bunch of mistakes and it'll take forever and you'll probably hate it. But do it again and again and you'll get better and faster. For example, when I was young, it took a whole damn day to HTML code web page. Later on in my life, I could do it in half an hour.
Explore different kinds of comics. Read up on Osamu Tezuka (This especially), Yoshinaga Fumi, Naoki Urusawa, etc,. Read comics for different demographics. Witness the variety of styles, storytelling, paneling, etc,. Also, don't be afraid to copy down from your favorite artists; you learn a lot from their techniques. Of course, this is strictly for practice and these copies will most likely only be seen by you. ♥
Uhh, lemme toss links
This page (http://shii.org/2ch/art.html) has a list of stuff to inspire the crap out of you~
Honestly, when I look at other people's work, it inspires me so much and makes me want to draw. So, here :3 (NSFW btw)
Drawins (http://plus4chan.org/boards/draw/) - Mostly comics and cartoons related but a lot of people draw in animu style (I hate to call it that but I don't what to call it, heh) Lots of helpful advice and stuff
Some thread (http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?t=58429) - I've been lurking through this thread and it's really cool because you see people practicing and getting critiqued. You see people just like you.
http://www.posemaniacs.com/ - Great for practicing body anatomy. It's best to do the 30 second drawings at least once everyday. You'll probably suck in the beginning or suck every once in a while, but it's okay! You'll get better. :3
This thread (Absolutely NSFW) (http://4chanarchive.org/brchive/dspl_thread.php5?thread_id=232601&x=drawing+anatomy+resources) - I picked up a bunch of really stuff from here a couple of days ago.
Thank yooou ♥
on 2008-07-26 02:22 pm (UTC)Mr Tezuka is a god, I grew up with his work. I’m also into western comics too so that helps a bit to have some variety.
Oh wow thanks for the links I’m really fond at looking at how others do it too. I really need to practice my computer colouring as I’m used to using paints but computers save money XD LOL 4chan is useful for something other than hentai, those anatomy guides are awesome.
