Got round to watching ‘The girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ (it was brilliant) and it’s made me really want a Inception AU in that verse. Arthur being this disgraced journalist that has to solve a PASIV based murder and runs into hacker Eames (I only put Eames in Lisbeth's place due to the tat and general 'I can do what I want' attitude :D)

Now onto the scary thinky part XD I see a lot of people moaning about Inception artists not being able to render the characters realistically, but I have been thinking on this and drawings can be a lot like hand writing, it's unique to you. So take Tom/Eames for instance, people know what he looks like but everyone one of us is going to render him differently because of our styles. Everyone, be it realistic, cartoony, in-between or in my case all over the bloody place, has their merits and being realistic and getting the guys spot on shouldn’t be the be all and end all. People who look at our work should see the passion we put into it, the fun, the drama and the feeling, not just be bogged down in likeness. I just hate people dragging artists down because of that, hell I can draw them realistically if I wanted but my style always drags me off to comic book land where you get to muck about stylising things and I like it there :p

I think Eames was on my bus this morning as someone had written ‘Hello darling ♥’ on the window XD *is a dork*

I've spent the last two days saving every single speck of Inception Art I can find and I love ALL THE STYLES. Really, what would be the point if it all looked the same? I like the anime and the watercolours and the realistic pieces and lineart scribbles and the chibis and ALL OF IT.

So yeah, artwhore here. *grabby hands for more*

I'm the same, I absolutely love how different everyone tackles the same subject and the actors, my art folder is huge. It's just so sad to see people diss the art because people in this fandom have amazing talent.

If they want realistic, they should stick with photos and manips and STFU about the art. Art is supposed to be interpretive.

LEAVE MY LOVELY ARTISTS ALONE, HATERS. *shoves them in a box and puts that box in another box and mails it...*

:D

True XD It's a lot more fun to see how others interpret things than to be just looking at what could be a photo.

Plus THard and JGL can be right sods to draw properly, Tom especially being an evil chameleon and all XD It's why a while ago I had a 'my oh god I hate my art' moment, i'd been getting comments about how people liked my more realistic stuff that it looked more like them and I should draw more like that. I got so stressed trying to get them right I almost gave up, but I figured I draw how I draw and stopped stressing ;D

LOL! It'll be like a Chinese finger puzzle of haters.

Realistically? Oh horseshit, pardon my French. The art in this fandom, all styles, makes me ridiculously happy. In fact, I have a multi-fandom art recs post coming tomorrow, and I have a piece or three of yours in there. I am always telling people how awesome the fan art in Inception is, and truth be told, it's part of what got me into this fandom. Whoever is hating on the fan art can kiss my arse :P

Ha-ha I cannot agree with those words more (you're excused lol) It’s just something I saw on the thankfully deleted anon meme and from trawling DA looking at art and even on my own DA. People seem to be so fixated on if you have them right or not, and I just don’t think that’s important. Some of my fave Inception artists don’t draw realistically, but have heart, story, fun and character behind their art and I love that.

And whoohoo recs ♥

See that's exactly the thing i'm against, judging peoples art by the actors D:

Don't look at it or let it effect you Lydia, seriously. You can't please everyone all the time, but people do love your art, so remember that and not what they said *hugs* And hey i'm not a BNF and you drew for me, that's just a nice thing to do, so please ignore them XD

Hate to crash your conversation but you're AMAZING. And from what I've seen in my lurking, lovely too. Don't pay attention to them. Haters gonna hate ;)

I don't think realism is necessarily the goal of fanart. I mean, as a fanfiction writer, I'm hardly writing the most realistic things ever. It's all part of the fun of exploration.

Aye, that's kinda what I wanted to say (except I did it in a long winded way lol) that the movie may have been realistic but our imaginations shouldn't have to be tied to that. Otherwise they're would be a serious lack of wonderful AU's floating around.

Which reminds me I really have to read your Steampunk verse ♥

I agree completely, a drawing is a drawing, not a photograph, and to demand that the artist makes the person look exactly like the actor is a bit ridiculous. If someone is going for an uber-realistic style then that's one thing, but if someone is drawing in a comic/manga/stylised way then it shouldn't be expected. Look at the Cobol Job. Everyone having their own style is part of the fun! I love seeing different people's renditions of the same characters and seeing them drawn in different styles.

(and I'm not just saying this because I find it hard to make drawings look like them xD)

That's so true. We all draw differently and it adds so many wonderful ideas and imagination together in so many ways. It would be so dull if we were all the same. It's something I hate because at Uni it's what my tutor used to do, he hated my style and would rub out weeks of work just to change it to what he wanted. Seeing people tell artists it should be one way is frustrating for me.

(Ah but you're drawings a lovely. The paisley knickers was wonderful XD)

Exactly :) It's wonderful to see so many people ploughing so much love and effort into the fandom. I love seeing fanart of my fandoms, even when it's not a pairing I'm into - though being focused on a pairing does mean missing some excellent art for other ships. I don't think I could cope with any more ships though, A/E is so epic.

(Thank you, you're far too kind <3 *blushes*)

I love the fact that it's all different. Just like different fic writers have different interpretations, different artists have different interpretations. I think it keeps it interesting and so wonderfully *fandom* :D

It's great that we're all so different because it adds to so many wonderful ways of seeing the guys. It's like kiwimangoodness who did these amazing shoujo style Inception pictures, they may not be realistic but man they were hilarious.

Exactly, I wish people would remember that. I'd hate to be in a fandom where they're would be no AU's for instance, no barista fic, steampunk fic ect Fandoms for imaginations to run wild XD

I hope you don't mind me replying to this since this entry is a bit older but I just really boggled at what you said about people bemoaning the lack of resemblance to the actors in fanart...that really happens O__o?!

My other main fandom right now is Sherlock Holmes (pretty much in all it's adaptions from the RDJmovie, over the Granada series to the new BBCseries) so yeah that is a lot of actors and it's a huge fandom with lots of amazing artists with different styles and not once have I ever heard the argument that the fanart sucked because the likeness wasn't spot on. That's just complete and utter crazytalk.

I don't mind at all hun XD Sadly yes it's something I've wandered across looking at fan art. I've seen people say they love art and then bemoan the fact they don't look like the actors. I find it sad because people have so many style and all are just wonderful.

Oh I love Sherlock Holmes (all off it)and I have seen the amazing art people make, like the Inception fandom it has so many ideas to share. I have no clue why some in the Inception fandom feel realism rules over individuals styles. But commenting on likeness seems to be a top thing to say. One of my favourite artists has a gorgeous stylized way of drawing that's all her own and it's brilliant. The fun she brings is much better than the most realistic art i've seen.
