Fox to remake Torchwood and possibly Doctor Who in America
Torchwood I can see working in the US even if the idea leaves me cold, they were aiming for a very American feel with COE. Though the whole fact they’re created by the Queen to defend Britain from alien threat kind of knocks that idea upside its head, unless they include the ‘special’ relationship the US and UK have in that. But really the US has it’s own Torchwood, it’s called Fringe ;) Only worry is it’ll now be in the US with no new UK based eps, no Barrowman and no Gwen ;_;But Doctor Who Americanised? NO! just…bugger off…NO! He’s like Sherlock Homes, a very national institution and I would just HATE that so very much. Feel childish in my dislike for this but he’s as British as Fish and Chips and has been for generations, don’t ruin that lazy US networks, get your own heroes.
I’ve ranted about this before so I’ll shut up now *looks sheepish*
Well I doodled to cheer myself up and this is what I get for drawing when I’m not particularly in much of a drawing mood because things go so off, LOLs at her bad anatomy and just general BAD.

Oh well just read this about the Doctor and Master in a Interview with Russell Davies
“Why doesn’t the Master kill the Doctor?”
“Because he loves him” replies Russell “Honestly I think he does.” GUH!!!
And had to draw something with them in it, even if the poor Doctor looks a gangly mess ;) I feel like arguing with my style as I’d love to draw a bit more cartoony than I do but *rage* I always have to go into so much detail. Life on Mars drawing coming up next, though they’re right sods to draw ;(

on 2010-01-20 01:57 pm (UTC)I don't get it. I know the US loves ripping off foreign concepts, and I kinda-sorta see why they'd do that with some obscure Indonesian horror flick, but I mean Torchwood is IN FRIGGIN' ENGLISH. Why the hell must they 'americanize' it? What's the point? D: Apart from that, as you said, there's some great American mystery/scifi shows already, why rip off a British one instead of, you know, airing the original? Will fragile American minds not grasp the British subtleties of Torchwood? Gah. And don't even get me started on Dr Who. I share your pain without even being a fan. ><"
I love the fanart, though. The doctor looks lovely and I really like his movement and his expression.

on 2010-01-20 02:25 pm (UTC)They did a Doctor Who movie set in American and it was horrible so I don’t want to see that again, they took everything fun, eccentric, British and goofy away from him ;_;
And aww thank ye for liking it *hugs* I'd tried so hard to capture how Tennant looks and moves because he's such a exuberant goofball, but he's also so hard to draw. I shouldn't be so overly critical of my stuff really :)

on 2010-01-20 05:01 pm (UTC)I kinda like the trend of re-invention of old themes going on (like New!Trek and the new Sherlock Holmes, which are both supposedly very good), but yeah, there's way too much recycling. You don't have to remake every damn horror classic from the 80's, dammit! And you're also right that it robs a lot of new aspiring writers/creators of great opportunities. :/
And remaking Dr Who ... that's just be majorly messing with history, man. Friggin' British TV legend.

on 2010-01-20 02:40 pm (UTC)And WOW that fanart is gorgeous. I'm always amazed at the resemblance between the actors and your drawings. They are spon on, in all their slashy awesomeness.

on 2010-01-20 04:23 pm (UTC)And really thank you so much for saying that as trying to capture how actors look is so blumming hard and sometimes I want to screw my drawings up.

on 2010-01-20 04:01 pm (UTC)I doubt it has anything to do with our "fragile American minds"...*raises eyebrow*

on 2010-01-20 04:52 pm (UTC)I don't even watch much television anymore, because its all too mindless for me, so I don't know how good of a judge I am of the general American viewing population. *smile*

on 2010-01-20 04:57 pm (UTC)Actually, there's been some really great American TV shows lately (Fringe or Mad Men for example), which AGAIN begs the question why they think they need to remake an already good British one. ^^*

on 2010-01-20 05:12 pm (UTC)I think i've heard about Fringe, but I know that I love Dollhouse, though I think that show might have been cancelled. Of course. I liked it, therefore it must die.
*LAUGH*

on 2010-01-20 04:49 pm (UTC)I don't think you guys have fragile minds at all *nudges* My moaning is more why bother remaking something that is already very popular in the US? Always makes me wonder because there are US shows I adore and I have no problem with them being in the US and love them for that fact. I always think it's insulting to Americans to believe you guys won't watch anything because it's in another language (and I say that for Brits too as some of our accents can be classed as foreign LOL) I just wish the Networks would get a clue and stop being lazy and give original shows a chance. I say that for UK networks too as they did remake Law and Order in the UK when the US one is fantastic. Everything is just a remake lately, originality seems to have gone the way of the Dodo.
God I sound like such a grumbly guts D:

on 2010-01-20 04:56 pm (UTC)I bet I know why they want to remake it. Other than the money issues. Now, don't take offense to this, because I love Dr. Who but...it's kind of cheesy. You have to admit it! And I know there are a lot of American audiences who only watch things if they have completely high drama and mindless violence or some kind of dark undercurrent. Hence why I think that Torchwood (though not exactly like that) would work a LOT better in the U.S. due to its darker nature.

on 2010-01-20 05:08 pm (UTC)Yeah Torchwood has always dealt with more realistic drama and relationships so it could translate well. Plus their last outing pretty much destroyed Torchwwod in wales so a move somewhere else like the US makes sense. I'd miss captain Jack so much though :(

on 2010-01-20 05:30 pm (UTC)OMGOSH I remember that episode!! It was HILARIOUS. I loved it. Granted I still like TNG better, but OMGOSH, the old series had some serious LULZ. *giggle*

on 2010-01-20 06:24 pm (UTC)I always find myself in tears from laughing at the things they come up with, the Mirror verse and the Tribbles, unforgettable. TNG ♥ Who can forget Piccard and his love affair with Q *laughs* I adore Data so much though.

on 2010-01-20 06:48 pm (UTC)I see a huge pitfall with remaking Torchwood. I've never seen an episode, but from what I've heard about the relationship between Jack and Ianto? I do believe that would send a great deal of Americans clutching at their pearls and running to the FCC. *eye roll* They can't even handle Adam Lambert, for crying out loud. The environment here is so touchy that they would censor that relationship to the core if it did come out in America--at least if it was on a major network.
I think ever since The Office became such a huge deal that America thinks they can remake everything.
Love the art, BTW, and it reminds me that I HAVE A COPY OF END OF TIME THAT I HAVE NOT WATCHED YET! D: D:
Also...fish and chips mmmmmmm.....

on 2010-01-20 07:02 pm (UTC)I think the Office is the only remake that did work off the top of my head. I just wish they would show originals and put more effort into advertising them.
My Master icon demands you watch it and his boyfriend the Doctor :) And thank you *hugs* Feel so much better about my doodle knowing people like it ;)
Oh now I'm hungry :)

on 2010-05-27 12:37 pm (UTC)I hope that Mofat remembers that should he ever use the Master again. Really every thing he does is to impress the Doctor ;) And thanks again and you got it so right again, that's just what I was trying to get across. The Master always seems to push yet at the same time he grabs and won't let go :)Heh you've made me want to draw more Doctor/Master art XD
