Fox to remake Torchwood and possibly Doctor Who in America
Torchwood I can see working in the US even if the idea leaves me cold, they were aiming for a very American feel with COE. Though the whole fact they’re created by the Queen to defend Britain from alien threat kind of knocks that idea upside its head, unless they include the ‘special’ relationship the US and UK have in that. But really the US has it’s own Torchwood, it’s called Fringe ;) Only worry is it’ll now be in the US with no new UK based eps, no Barrowman and no Gwen ;_;But Doctor Who Americanised? NO! just…bugger off…NO! He’s like Sherlock Homes, a very national institution and I would just HATE that so very much. Feel childish in my dislike for this but he’s as British as Fish and Chips and has been for generations, don’t ruin that lazy US networks, get your own heroes.
I’ve ranted about this before so I’ll shut up now *looks sheepish*
Well I doodled to cheer myself up and this is what I get for drawing when I’m not particularly in much of a drawing mood because things go so off, LOLs at her bad anatomy and just general BAD.

Oh well just read this about the Doctor and Master in a Interview with Russell Davies
“Why doesn’t the Master kill the Doctor?”
“Because he loves him” replies Russell “Honestly I think he does.” GUH!!!
And had to draw something with them in it, even if the poor Doctor looks a gangly mess ;) I feel like arguing with my style as I’d love to draw a bit more cartoony than I do but *rage* I always have to go into so much detail. Life on Mars drawing coming up next, though they’re right sods to draw ;(

on 2010-01-20 01:57 pm (UTC)I don't get it. I know the US loves ripping off foreign concepts, and I kinda-sorta see why they'd do that with some obscure Indonesian horror flick, but I mean Torchwood is IN FRIGGIN' ENGLISH. Why the hell must they 'americanize' it? What's the point? D: Apart from that, as you said, there's some great American mystery/scifi shows already, why rip off a British one instead of, you know, airing the original? Will fragile American minds not grasp the British subtleties of Torchwood? Gah. And don't even get me started on Dr Who. I share your pain without even being a fan. ><"
I love the fanart, though. The doctor looks lovely and I really like his movement and his expression.

on 2010-01-20 02:25 pm (UTC)They did a Doctor Who movie set in American and it was horrible so I don’t want to see that again, they took everything fun, eccentric, British and goofy away from him ;_;
And aww thank ye for liking it *hugs* I'd tried so hard to capture how Tennant looks and moves because he's such a exuberant goofball, but he's also so hard to draw. I shouldn't be so overly critical of my stuff really :)

on 2010-01-20 05:01 pm (UTC)I kinda like the trend of re-invention of old themes going on (like New!Trek and the new Sherlock Holmes, which are both supposedly very good), but yeah, there's way too much recycling. You don't have to remake every damn horror classic from the 80's, dammit! And you're also right that it robs a lot of new aspiring writers/creators of great opportunities. :/
And remaking Dr Who ... that's just be majorly messing with history, man. Friggin' British TV legend.
