Dances with smurfs aka AVATAR
Dec. 29th, 2009 07:42 pmJust been to see AVATAR and I’m going to eat humble pie on thinking ‘Meh’ at the trailers as I thought it was fabulous darling. No it’s not the film to end all films that Cameron was boasting but it was still very entertaining nether the less. If you’ve played video games, watched/read Sci-fi and fantasy it’s nothing new but if you love those genres you’ll enjoy this film. The visuals were astounding, the story was serviceable if a little cliché. But Pandora was so Immersive I kind of though bugger the rest of the film I want to see David Attenborough walking around commenting on the world around him.
Only downside, I have migraine from the 3D.

on 2009-12-29 08:54 pm (UTC)I would love to see that so much as the bioluminescent world was amazing. You can imagine what they could show us on Blue Ray if they can perfect the 3D interactive sections on there ♥ Apparently Cameron said there may be 2 more films to come so I hope we see much more of Pandora. I loved the fact that the whole world was so alive, literally :)

on 2009-12-29 09:03 pm (UTC)Really, the world-building was exquisite, and I have a HUGE thing for detailed world-building so it was perfect for me from that point of view. I hope they do concentrate slightly more on the plot for the next film(s) if they do make them, because that was the only disappointment for me (though when I was watching it, I was so engrossed in the visuals that I didn't really have a chance to think about that until we came out of the cinema).

on 2009-12-29 10:52 pm (UTC)*nods* I really can't think of a world in any film that was so well visualized, well apart from our own ;) I feel the same way too about that, I pretty much could guess what was going to happen before it did. Cameron has a habit of doing visuals over story and he's even rehashing his Aliens plot a little with the evil corporation doing anything to get their money :( So yeah I wish next time he ups the originality more, I just hope the next films won't be a rehash of the humans coming back with more force. He has a whole world to play with now :D

on 2009-12-29 11:28 pm (UTC)You're right, the visuals were very nice and my family loved it, but I guess that just wasn't enough for me personally cause I just wanted it to end so I could go home and sleep, haha.
But, I was very impressed that there was absolutely no uncanny valley effect going on.

on 2009-12-30 12:41 pm (UTC)Haha I've had people next to me asleep and done it myself during 'Troy' so you could have nodded off at the cinema. It's quite comfy sometimes if you can drown out the booms and bangs ;)
True, the Na'vi were enough like us but still alien enough to not cause revulsion. I've heard people say it was because of the eyes, they made them big and childlike.
