A flashback to my youth

Should call this post ‘It’s not a wise idea to look back at things you adored when you were a kid, because you cried at bunnies then and you still cry at bunnies now, you big kid’ One of my sisters friends thinks that there aren’t that many good British animated films so I trekked onto You tube and came back with two to share that I both adore and yet at the same time they break my heart. I’m showing music vids as I couldn’t find good trailers for them ;_;
They’re old and were made in the late 70’s but don’t let their age fool you, I still believe they are beautiful things to watch because they make you care about the world you live in THAT much more and show that British animators used to be great in telling very human stories
First is Watership Down
Amazing film, both hopeful and twisted at the same time. Thanks to the rabbit Fiver having a vision of the destruction of his burrow he persuades his brother Hazel to leave. Strangely enough for a kids film it’s really brutal showing the killing, snaring and fighting of rabbits in their full bloody glory. Not to mention the voice acting is really amazing and gentle. I’ve NEVER been so affected by a story ever in my life; I can’t watch the ending without sobbing today. You can watch the whole thing on you tube starting here but I recommend getting the cleaned up version on torrent if you can.
And on to Plague Dogs
Is also by the same guys who did the Watership Down film (and the same author) and is sadly lesser known but by no means is it bad, it’s a hidden gem. Rowf and Snitter are two dogs who escape their cruel fates at a testing facility by blind luck. Unluckily for them as they escape the knock over a vile that possibly holds a plague like virus and the army is sent after them. What follows is pure survival and an ending that will hurt. if you have any boubts that animal testing is wrong you will after this.It’s on you tube again to watch if you want , though if you’re not British do be aware of the very strong English accents. And don’t forget your hankies ;_;

on 2009-06-29 09:41 pm (UTC)I miss them too, especially ones where they're pretty realistic and not all cartoony 3D humanized animals.
