Been reading the translation more and finding out L is quite selfish and childish and loves playing the cases as one kind of big game brought more light on Nears “If you can’t win the game, if you can’t solve the puzzle, then you’re just another loser,” At least there is more understanding over Near’s saying that L is just a loser in the game, that he didn’t mean that he disrespects him and was mocking him but the simple fact L lost the game with Kira. Mello misunderstood that so got pissed, Near understands L more than Mello.
L playing a game also reminds me of one of the other great fictional detective, Sherlock Holmes as he too often chose cases he would find fun and interesting "the game is afoot" *lol* So my respect to L hasn't dwindled from that.
And as much as Near and L like games and those games make cases enjoyable to them I’m still not sure Mello quite does, he said he wouldn’t play Nears games. His plans are game like but his attitude isn’t, he’s playing with Near but he takes everything Near does seriously.
It would also seem Near has quite the obsessive personality if his constant comparing himself to L is anything to go by.
And if Near didn’t get to meet L and Mello did in ‘Another Note’ that was unfair. I’m confused. Maybe Obah was ignoring that novel. But I like the idea of L playing them against one another he realises and supports that rivalry as he knows it gives them something to aim for.
Oh god my brain too many Near thoughts.
