Well saw Transformers last night and after my initial excitement I’m a bit indecisive as to whether I loved it or it was a bit meh! Okay well yes I did love it from the bottom of my little G1 fan heart, I mean it was my childhood up there in glorious 3D and for a bit I was 10 again. I think I annoyed my sister by being worst than the kid next to me for going “Oh god it’s Prime!!!.............where the hell is his faceplate................he’s got lips.........WTF....................why is the gettoblaster Frenzy and not Soundwave................Bumblebee!!!!!!!!!..................It’s Primes voice from the cartoons!!!!!!!!..............Devastator? Isn’t that Brawl????......... yata” and on the design front I couldn’t tell most of the Decepticons apart. As a designer myself that’s bad.

Ahem ^_^

Apart from such silly fan reactions the thing that disappointed me was the human characters. The film mainly focused on them (leaving out much of the Transformers character development) and in doing so gave up most of the story to some of the most moronic people ever. Spike Sam was okay he managed to keep the humour up and did a good job of interacting with the CG. Especialy good when poor Bumblebee was captured. I even liked the soldiers and wished they had paid closer attention to them. If it had paid heed to those few characters then maybe there would have been more plots for the actual Transformers. But no we get some idiotic humour with Sam’s parent that goes on for far to long, the most stupid parody of a MIB ever with the sector 7 guy and some characters such as the hacker that really do nothing but waste sc. Because of the focus on these we see the major battles fade into the background. Prime V Megatron, the battle everyone wants to see was just a quick brawl in the distance while it focuses on Sam....argghhhh!!! Oh and it suffered from shaky cam syndrome, sometimes it was really hard to see what was going on.

Oh god that makes it seem like I really hated it, which I didn’t I was smiling all the way through. I just really wanted to see more of my childhood heroes battling it out (yeah I was a tomboy) and maybe only more of Sam and the army guys, the others were just superfluous. Other than that wow! Seeing the big guys transforming and moving brought back all my childhood imagination that wished that big truck down the road would be Prime or my tape deck was Soundwave. I really felt like a little kid again and for that I am happy, role on the sequel (with Grimlock, pretty please)

I’m going to go watch the 1986 movie now.

Oh god I can’t wait to see EVA on the big screen 0-0 I pray they don’t mess it up.
