Thoughts on Mello

Everyone knows how much I love Near but I was just thinking today what it was I liked about Mello as I was so very bored at work. He can be too emotional, zealous, envious, stubborn and infuriatingly set in his ways, but hey I don’t exactly like Near for his fun loving personality so these aren’t bad things. But what got me loving Mello weren’t just these, it wasn’t just that he possesses great charisma, mind and spirit; it wasn’t just the admiration from seeing one so young rise through the ranks of one of the most powerful organisations in the world. It was something else that struck me, one small little fact. 

It was that when there was flaw in Near’s puzzle, when he could of stood back and let Near fail and in doing so win L’s title by default. But he didn’t sit idly by. He chose one last gambit to draw the last piece Near was missing; a final last push which he knew may just be his last. He never chose the cowards way out or the easy way and for that I admire Mello just as much as a certain cold, puzzle solving, Death God wannabe mocking, white haired short arse ^_^

You're so right about that. Mello really did grow-up a lot in a short amount of time, which is something I also like about him. And, another 'small' thing that has always stuck out to me is that he was a gentleman to the very end: He could have been very much more crass with Takada, discovered the note, and thus, saved his own life, but he treated her with respect even in such a cut-throat situation. That takes class.

And, indeed, that is a beautiful picture. I like how his forehead can be seen for once! Haha.

Oh, and also, hi, you're on my fanworks journal. ^^; I don't normally read and comment on people's entries from this journal like this, but um, I did read this and had to comment. ^^;

I do find his lack of eyebrows endearing in that picture ^_^

And Hi back at you, I’m always reading your stories so I definitely know who you are and thanks for replying I thought I was rambling away to myself there *lol*

I can’t agree more he is a gentleman, even when Halle was naked in front of him he didn’t bat an eyelash, maybe he had more important matters to think about at the time but he was never moronic about it. He was a nice guy really underneath all the bravado and anger. It is really poignant how much he changed from being very emotional at the start to more sedate at the end, it was like his spark was fading out the more he realised what he had to do to win.

Mello is love for many reasons. He's a hero, but no one will ever recognize his presence or his sacrifice. He wanted to be number one, but at the end he'll remain anonymous, without a name until the bitter end. His corpse was a random one unable to be identified (T_T)
And he had actually saved the world...

But I guess that, at the end, it didn't matter to him anymore. His goals had changed.

Your so right, he is hero. In the end, in his own way he finally saw that to be the best it wasn’t winning a name but giving up something to save people. I'm sure Near will always remember what he did and maybe that's all that really matters. In the end they defeated Kira together *cries*

And I like to hope somewhere at Whammy house there's a memorial for Mello, like the ones you get of unknown soldiers that died. He deserves that much, but that's just be being sentimental.

I would murder to see her do a fully painted doujinshi like that because I just can't stop staring at the pretty (O_O)

Mello and Near's lack of eyebrows in general is endearing. I still wonder why, though, but it's just artistic license, I guess. ;)

That's nice to hear. ^^ And haha, we've actually talked somewhere else before, I believe, so I know who you are, too. >D

He did, and it seemed to me he was purposely trying not to look. So, either he's a real gentleman, actually has some self-restraint, and/or, of course, he's gay and completely uninterested, lol.

Mello does have a good heart. :) He's so mean, naturually and in part, to protect it, I think. I'm sure he's been desensitized like whoa, but he still has a pure heart when it comes down to it.

And aw, about his spark fading out, but that is the case; he was probably really tired by the time it came to that as well, so, yeah.
