hope_calaris 1. Your main fandoms of the year?
Star Trek XI, Doctor Who, Death Note, Supernatural, Merlin.
2. Your favorite films watched this year?
Star Trek XI, District 9, UP.
3. Your favorite book read this year?
Prime Directive by Garfield Reeves-Stevens and Judith Reeves-Stevens. Yeah it’s a Star Trek novel, shut up! I took it upon myself to raid the local charity shop and read a ton of Trekkie novels okay :P
4. Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
Lungs by Florence and the machine
5. Your favorite TV show of the year?
Doctor Who, Supernatural and Being Human. I can’t choose ;_;
6. Your favorite LJ community of the year?
Oh god too many, probably Kirk/McCoy, met some lovely people and friends there and no wank, yay! Plus the Death Note anthology project, everyone was fantastic ♥
7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Well there not ‘new’ as I used to be into them years ago but I’ve returned to them full force, but Star Trek and Life on Mars.
8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Death Note. Not because of my ace friends in the fandom nor the show itself but some of the anons who just love to wank, it’s soured things for me a little I’m afraid to say because I'm so tired of it. fandoms here for us to have fun and make friends not turn on one another over such simple and small matters
9. Your TV boyfriend of the year?
John Simm and David Tennant! WHAT!? I’m greedy ;)
10. Your TV girlfriend of the year?
I’m sad I don’t have one.
11. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Has to be the Doctor and Master team up in the End of time. I was looking forward to the Master returning but in no bloody way did I expect to see so much slashiness and general brokenness on both their parts. That and the Time lord victorious moment in Waters of Mars.
12. The most missed of your old fandoms?
Life on Mars, but getting back into it now I watched my boxsets again and again and again *coughs*
13. The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
Erm maybe Glee, I’ve only just started watching it but i'm liking it.
14. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
Matt Smith as the new Doctor, despite being a Tennant fan I’m quite excited to see what that lad can do. And more Merlin and Being Human ♥

I just bought the first season dvdbox, but the second is so expensive right now. Damn.
Oooooooh!! And I just found some awesome fics - one even includes Jack! You know, Captain Jack. *_*
The fandom is so sweet and the fics are great. And the friendly people insist on hurting Sam which makes me insanely happy. ♥ ♥ ♥

on 2010-01-16 06:51 pm (UTC)John Simm is SOOO awesome. And the show is bloody brilliant! Is one of the best things I've seen in tv, including "Chrildren of Earth" which was fantastic, but is just so incredibly depressing that I don't want to watch it again.
I'm so obsessed right now. I really need to force myself not to try and talk all my friends into watching this show. Mainly because I think "Life on Mars" is so weird and so different from other shows and so strange and unique, that I'm not sure they'll like it.
To be honest ... I think most of them won't.
But its quirky, bittersweet, nostalgic, dramatic weirdness is exactly what makes me love LoM so very much. It's angsty without being emo and its funny without being silly and it's emotional without being cheesy.
And it has John fucking Simm.
A show can't get any more perfect than that, can it?
I don't think there was even a single episode that I didn't completely enjoyed and adored.

Man every fic I’ve read so far is poor Sam either being off his head or beaten up or just plain hurting. It’s mean but I’m loving it too ;) Mind you John Simm hurts so well so who can blame us.

It's a required taste I guess because of the setting and the whole Britishness but John Simm is so flipping wonderful, heart wrenching and yet funny. The scene in the hospital where Gene and him fight when the poor girl is in a coma is classic and when he tells gene to get out of his Camberwick Green has me rolling so much I want everyone too see it. I'd find it hard to understand if someone didn't like it because god it's just so well written ♥
I kill myself laughing whenever Gene speaks though, any show that can make a alcoholic, sexist, bent copper lovable is doing something very right ♥

on 2010-01-16 07:21 pm (UTC)Gene is such an asshole. XD I mean he hates women and gay people and foreigners and well, kind of everybody. But at the same time he's so incredibly funny and also kindhearted in a way that you just can't help but love him.
In a way he's really protective of his team, too (which makes me melt every time he shows it *g*).
And I especially love the Britishness. Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong country. ;)
German tv mostly sucks, escept for some stuff every once in a while. And I'm kind of fed up with US-tv and all the plastic dolls who are supposed to be real people. It feels so artificial (not to mention superficial) and sometimes I'm really sick of it.
I still like the darker, grittier shows like "Supernatural" though.

on 2010-01-16 07:45 pm (UTC)Aww, some of our telly is rubbish, especially all the reality shows we have X_X But we do have some great stuff coming out now and again and bless it for always being down to earth and more real, wonder if a US fantasy show would ever have the guts to do what COE did? I can believe a story to be more impacting if the people in it are like people you see on the street everyday and not perfect. I think on US telly you wouldn't see anyone like Colin Morgan because he's not got the classic 'perfect' look but I find him adorable.
Good thing about Supernatural is they may be handsome guys but oh boy does it treat them mean XD
